Supreme Court Sets Deadline for Response in Trump's Immunity Case
The U.S. Supreme Court has given Special Counsel Jack Smith a one-week deadline to respond to former President Trump's request to delay his 2020 election interference trial. Trump's legal team filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court seeking temporary relief to block the appeals court mandate that found Trump not immune from prosecution. Chief Justice John Roberts instructed Smith to reply by Feb. 20, 2024, and the court could either grant Trump's request for a stay, expedite the case, or reject the request and send the case back to the lower court for a new trial date.
