Solar-Powered SUV Conquers 620-Mile Off-Road Journey Across Morocco
A team of students from Eindhoven University of Technology has developed Stella Terra, the world's first off-road solar-powered SUV. The khaki-green vehicle uses solar panels on its roof to charge its electric battery, allowing it to drive long distances powered entirely by the sun. The team tested the car in Morocco, driving over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) across various terrains. With a top speed of 145 kilometers (90 miles) per hour, the car has a battery range of around 710 kilometers (441 miles) on roads and 550 kilometers (342 miles) off-road. The lightweight design and efficient solar panel converters make it more efficient than expected. The team hopes to inspire the automotive industry to innovate faster and switch to more sustainable vehicles.
