Snake's Failed Attempt to Eat Porcupine Captured in Israel Photo

A non-venomous black snake in Israel attempted to eat a porcupine but ended up dying along with its spiky prey. The snake's attempt to rid itself of the porcupine failed due to the one-way direction of the quills, resulting in both animals perishing. The incident occurred near a dog park in the community of Shoham, and an ecologist suggested that the snake realized its mistake too late. Israel is home to 41 snake species and three species of porcupines.

Ecologist's Body Kills Tick Bites

Ecologist Dr Richard Ostfeld claims that his immune system kills ticks that bite him, leaving him with an itchy and burning welt where the bite took place. The acquired tick immunity helps protect him from illnesses like Lyme disease. Dr Ostfeld has been running a five-year project researching ways to reduce the tick population and cut the number of Lyme disease cases. His case suggests the possibility of a vaccine being developed against tick bites. However, concerns over developing a vaccine against tick bites include the risks that it could trigger severe allergic reactions that could prove fatal.
