Cardinals Seek Clarification from Pope Francis before Synod on Synodality
Five cardinals have submitted a set of questions, known as "dubia," to Pope Francis ahead of the Synod on Synodality, seeking clarification on topics including doctrinal development, the blessing of same-sex unions, the authority of the Synod, women's ordination, and sacramental absolution. The cardinals expressed concerns about declarations made by high-ranking prelates that they believe contradict the constant doctrine and discipline of the Church. They previously submitted a version of the dubia in July and received a response from the Pope, but it did not provide the desired clarity. The cardinals have now reformulated the questions to elicit "yes" or "no" responses and are awaiting a reply.
