Stellantis Urges Dodge Ram Owners to Halt Driving Older Models Following Fatal Airbag Incident

Stellantis and the U.S. government are urging owners of certain 2003 Dodge Ram pickup trucks to stop driving them after a driver was killed by an exploding Takata airbag. The chemical used in the airbags, ammonium nitrate, can become more volatile over time when exposed to moisture and high temperatures, causing the explosions to become more violent. This is the 26th death in the U.S. since 2009 and more than 30 people have been killed worldwide due to Takata airbag failures. Stellantis is offering free transportation to help owners get their vehicles repaired, as millions of recalled Takata inflators remain unrepaired.
