Rising Concerns Over Mysterious 'Disease X' Outbreak in DRC
A mysterious disease, referred to as 'Disease X', has emerged in Kwango Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, killing 143 people and infecting around 400. The outbreak is straining the local health system, already burdened by past Mpox and Ebola outbreaks. Symptoms resemble severe flu, and while COVID-19 has been ruled out, other diseases like malaria and pneumonia are being considered as potential causes. The WHO is concerned about the remote location and security issues, complicating response efforts. The Congolese government has deployed a rapid intervention team, and laboratory tests are ongoing to identify the disease.
