MediaTek has officially launched the Dimensity 8300, a new upper-mid-range system-on-a-chip (SoC) for high-end smartphones. It features a tri-cluster CPU, an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU, LPDDR5X 8533 memory, and support for on-device generative AI. The Dimensity 8300 is 20% faster and 30% more power efficient than its predecessor, and it is manufactured on TSMC's "second generation" 4 nm process node. The GPU offers a 60% performance uplift and 55% power efficiency improvement, while the 780 APU is 3.3x faster and can run large language models with up to 10 billion parameters. The SoC also supports high-speed LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.0 storage, SA and NSA networks, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. It can power displays with up to 180 Hz FHD+ or 120 Hz QHD+ refresh rates and has compatibility with "dual displays."
