MLB Aims to Centralize TV Rights and End Blackouts by 2028
Major League Baseball (MLB) is planning a long-term strategy to centralize media rights for all 30 teams by 2028, following the resolution of Diamond Sports Group's bankruptcy. The league aims to maximize revenue and eliminate local blackouts by nationalizing broadcast rights, which would involve negotiating with teams that currently have stable regional sports networks. This plan would require cooperation from team owners and the players' union, as it would change revenue sharing dynamics. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred emphasized the economic benefits of more national broadcasts.
