Iconic bakeries in Texas and Illinois to close after decades in business.
Star Bakery, known for its Jewish baked goods, will close its doors on July 2 due to rising costs of labor and ingredients, as well as difficulties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The bakery's sister location, Diamond Bakery, will remain open. The owners bought Star Bakery in 2021 and had difficulty competing with machine-made products and increasing labor costs. Some bakery items will continue to be produced at Diamond Bakery, and a few employees may move over.
