Google Lens can now search for skin conditions using AI image recognition. Users can take a picture or upload a photo through Lens to find visual matches for skin, hair, and nail conditions. However, Google warns that results are informational only and not a diagnosis, and users should consult a medical authority for advice. Google's DermAssist tool is currently undergoing further market testing and is intended for informational purposes only. Critics caution that AI diagnostic tools may be less accurate for users with darker skin tones. Google has been working to address this issue and has partnered with Harvard professor Ellis Monk to promote best practices for using the Monk Skin Tone Scale in AI development.
