Favre remains in lawsuit over misspent welfare money, Mississippi Supreme Court rules
The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied an appeal to remove NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre as a defendant in a civil lawsuit seeking to recover misspent welfare money. The lawsuit alleges that millions of federal welfare dollars were improperly spent on projects supported by wealthy or well-connected individuals, including Favre. While no criminal charges have been brought against Favre, the lawsuit claims that he arranged for his drug company to receive $1.7 million and orchestrated $5 million for a volleyball facility. Favre's attorneys argue that he was not part of the scheme and that the Department of Human Services is suing him to deflect from its own role in allowing fraud.
