Mexico's Ruling Party Secures Key Victory in Governor's Race.
Delfina Gómez, a former school teacher and ally of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has won the election for governor of Mexico state, beating the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) which has governed the state uninterrupted since 1929. The PRI has faced allegations of foul play for years and recently a joint investigation revealed that at least $300m had been embezzled by the state government through dozens of contracts awarded to front and shell companies between 2018 and 2022. The defeat could prove to be insurmountable for the PRI when it comes to contesting the presidential elections next year.
