Mysterious Golden Orb Found in Ocean Depths Puzzles Researchers
Scientists exploring the seabed off the coast of Alaska with a NOAA Ocean Exploration underwater craft were puzzled by a solitary golden orb about 10 centimeters wide, attached to a rock two miles below the surface. The orb, which was observed during a 2023 livestream, appeared to have a hole, leading to speculation that it might be an egg from which something had hatched. Deep-sea ecologist Kerry Howell suggested it could be an egg due to its fleshy texture and lack of obvious anatomy, but its exact nature remains unknown.
