
Consumers Tighten Wallets as Tip Requests Wear Thin
Consumers are becoming increasingly stingy with their tips due to the growing number of establishments requesting gratuities. Service-sector workers in nonrestaurant leisure and hospitality jobs saw a 7% decrease in average hourly tips, from $1.38 to $1.28, according to an analysis of small and medium-size businesses. Despite consumer frustration, the tipping culture is unlikely to disappear in the U.S. anytime soon.
