
DC Police Chief Robert Contee III to Join FBI
Robert Contee III, the chief of D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department, is retiring from his position and taking a job with the FBI. Contee became chief in May 2021 and dealt with an increase in violent crimes, especially gun violence involving young people. The police force is down almost 12%, from 3,800 sworn officers when Contee became chief to 3,362 as of April. His last day with the MPD will be June 3.
