Former Peruvian Presidential Candidate Convicted of Journalist's Murder
Former Peruvian presidential candidate, Daniel Urresti, has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for his role in the murder of journalist Hugo Bustíos in 1988. Urresti, then a military intelligence army officer, was found to have taken part in the ambush and murder of Bustíos, who was investigating human rights abuses during the country's civil conflict. The judges ruled that the murder was premeditated. Urresti's lawyers said they would appeal the verdict.
