Peruvian ex-minister implicated in journalist's killing.

Former Peruvian interior minister, Daniel Urresti, has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for his complicity in the 1988 murder of journalist Hugo Bustíos, who investigated human rights abuses. The court ruled that Urresti, who was a military intelligence officer at the time, took part in the ambush and murder of Mr Bustíos. Witnesses said men in plain clothes placed explosives on Mr Bustíos and detonated them, killing him instantly. The attack was initially blamed on the Maoist Shining Path group, but eyewitnesses said it had been carried out by the army.
