"Leading Automakers Join Forces to Boost US Battery Cell Production"

Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding, and PACCAR have formed a joint venture called Accelera to advance battery cell production in the United States. The joint venture, in which each company will own a 30% stake, aims to focus on lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology for commercial battery-electric trucks. They plan to invest between $2 billion and $3 billion to set up a 21-gigawatt hour (GWh) factory for manufacturing LFP battery cells. LFP battery cells were developed in the US, but Chinese companies currently dominate global production.

Toyota and Daimler join forces to merge Japanese truck operations.

Daimler Truck and Toyota have signed a preliminary deal to combine their truck units in Japan under a holding company, with the shares of the new company expected to be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's prime market. The companies will invest equally and cooperate on the development of hydrogen and other technologies in areas such as connectivity and autonomous driving. The companies expect to sign a definitive agreement in the first quarter of 2024 and close the transaction by the end of next year.

Daimler Invests in EV Charging Network and Launches New Electric Truck Brand.

Daimler, NextEra Energy Resources, and a BlackRock investment fund are partnering to create Greenlane, a $650 million charging network for medium- and heavy-duty commercial EVs. The first site will be in Southern California, with plans to build out along critical freight routes on the East and West Coasts, as well as in Texas. Greenlane will eventually add chargers for passenger EVs. The network aims to address the unique demands of the industry and support mutual customers, while providing a dual benefit to all electric vehicle drivers.
