"Arrested Russian Blogger Reveals Putin's Close Call with Toppling"
Igor Strelkov, a convicted war criminal and former commander of troops fighting for the self-proclaimed Donetsk "people's republic" in Ukraine, has been arrested for making "public calls for extremist activity on the Internet" after criticizing the Russian army and President Putin on social media. Strelkov, who orchestrated the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014, has been a vocal critic of the Kremlin and has recently formed the "Angry Patriots Club" in an attempt to launch a political movement. His arrest is seen as a preventive measure by high-ranking officials following Yevgeny Prigozhin's rebellion, although Strelkov's popularity among Russians is considered limited.
