Kenya Begins Handing Over Bodies of Doomsday Cult Victims to Grieving Families
Kenya's government has begun handing over the bodies of 429 members of a doomsday cult, with exhumed bodies showing signs of starvation and strangulation. Cult leader Paul Mackenzie faces charges including murder for allegedly instructing followers to starve themselves to meet Jesus. Emotions ran high as the first bodies were handed over to relatives, with DNA testing being used to identify them. Mackenzie and his associates are set to stand trial for the torture and murder of 191 children, and his ministry has been declared a criminal organized group. Some Kenyans have criticized authorities for not acting on reports that could have prevented the deaths.
