Sydney Mall Rampage: Officer and Bystanders Hailed for Stopping Knife Attacker
A man stabbed and killed six people at a Sydney shopping mall before being shot dead by a police officer, with at least a dozen others injured. The attacker, Joel Cauchi, had a history of mental illness, and the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related. NSW Premier Chris Minns praised the bravery of bystanders and Inspector Amy Scott, the first responder who confronted and killed the attacker, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also commended their courage. Video footage showed chaotic scenes as people fled and confronted the assailant, and floral tributes have been laid outside the mall for the victims.
