Rare twin cotton-top tamarin monkeys born at Disney World
Twin cotton-top tamarin monkeys, a critically endangered species, were born at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom, marking the first time in over 20 years that the species has been born at the park. The monkeys, which are about the size of a chicken egg, are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plan, which works to help responsibly breed threatened species. There are fewer than 7,500 members of the species remaining in the wild, and deforestation and unregulated pet trade in their native Colombia are the most significant factors contributing to their decline.
