Matt Wallace won the Corales Puntacana Championship, earning $684,000 and 300 FedExCup points. The 32-year-old golfer, who is a member of both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, played the last 16 holes in bogey-free 7-under with seven birdies for a field-low-tying 66. Nicolai Højgaard of Denmark finished second, while Tyler Duncan and Sam Stevens shared third place.
Ricky Barnes, a former PGA Tour player and 2002 U.S. Amateur champion, who now has a day job in real estate, finished solo seventh at the Corales Puntacana Championship, his best finish since 2016. Barnes, who has not played a full Tour schedule since losing his card in 2018, claimed a spot in next week's Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. Despite not being a full-time Tour player anymore, Barnes still competes when he can and is excited to play in the Valero Texas Open.
The Corales Puntacana Championship, the second opposite event of the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season, will be contested at Corales Puntacana Resort and Club. The course required extensive repair and time to recover after Hurricane Fiona made landfall nearby in mid-2022. Prevailing breezes will be sustained at 10-20 mph all week, and slower greens than usual are expected. Chad Ramey, Cody Gribble, Andrew Novak, Ryan Gerard, and Fabrizio Zanotti are among the projected contenders.
