Newmont and Newcrest's Billion-Dollar Deal Creates Gold Mining Giant
Newmont Mining has agreed to acquire Newcrest Mining for $17.5 billion, in what will be the largest-ever M&A deal in the gold-mining industry. The acquisition extends a battle for control among miners for commodities essential for making electric vehicles and renewable-energy infrastructure, as Newcrest’s gold mines also produce significant amounts of copper.
