Navigating the Challenges of Aging and Disability Services
Nora Super, former executive director of the 2015 White House Conference on Aging, shared her experience coping with a severe spinal cord injury and the challenges of accessing disability services. After a mental health crisis, Super attempted suicide and sustained the life-changing injury. Her husband, Len Nichols, struggled to find a rehabilitation facility that would accept her due to her mental health condition. The couple faced significant expenses in adapting their home and acquiring necessary equipment. Super emphasized the importance of physical and occupational therapists in her recovery and expressed her desire to advocate for improved accessibility and support for people with disabilities.
