"The Death of Fridays: How Remote Work is Redefining the Workweek"

Real estate billionaire Steven Roth's prediction that Fridays are "dead forever" for in-office work has been confirmed by Nick Bloom, head of WFH Research. Bloom's research shows that Fridays have increasingly become the designated work-from-home day, as companies push for coordinated hybrid work arrangements. In-person collaboration and socializing remain the main appeal of office work, leading to the consensus among coworkers to coordinate being home on Fridays. Bloom describes this new arrangement as a "three-part week," with Mondays through Thursdays, the weekend, and Fridays. Despite back-to-work mandates, companies like Amazon, Google, and Salesforce are still allowing remote work on Fridays. There is a discrepancy between employers and employees regarding the number of days to be spent in the office. While more companies are formalizing remote work policies, an estimated 58% of workers can still work remotely, with Fridays being a common remote work day.
