The City of Fort Wayne in Indiana has announced the locations of three cooling stations that will be available to the public on Wednesday and Thursday as high temperatures are expected to hit the area. The stations will be at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, Weisser Park Youth Center, and the Salvation Army. Additionally, the Rescue Mission has an indoor shelter open daily regardless of outdoor temperatures.

Heatwave Wreaks Havoc Across Texas and Minnesota

Texas is experiencing an extreme heat wave with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and heat indexes of up to 120 degrees. The heat is affecting all strata of society, with outdoor workers and older adults being particularly vulnerable. Cities throughout Texas have opened cooling stations in libraries and other public buildings, many of which have served as shelters for homeless residents. Relief agencies have also accelerated their service. The extreme heat and humidity is projected to continue in Texas for much of this week, before it spreads into parts of the Southwest and the lower Mississippi River Valley through the Fourth of July weekend.
