Discord Implements Temporary File Links to Combat Malware
Discord plans to switch to temporary file links for all users by the end of the year to prevent attackers from using its content delivery network (CDN) for hosting and distributing malware. The new file hosting system will include expiration timestamps and unique signatures, ensuring that links expire after 24 hours and cannot be used for permanent file hosting. This move comes as Discord faces ongoing challenges in curbing cybercrime activities on its platform, with its servers frequently being misused to distribute malware and exfiltrate data. According to a recent report, at least 10,000 malware operations have exploited Discord CDN URLs to drop malicious payloads on infected systems.
