Malachi Brown, one of the drivers involved in the fatal 2023 construction zone accident that resulted in the deaths of six workers, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison as part of a plea deal. The judge agreed to the deal, which also includes three years of supervised probation and 40 hours of community service. Brown faced up to 60 years in prison but accepted the plea deal for a significantly reduced jail time, and he waived credit for time spent in jail and on home detention.

A 75-year-old man died in a one-vehicle crash after driving through a closed construction zone on southbound I-75 in Oakland County, Michigan. A 16-year-old teenager, Alexander Robinson, has died after being struck by a hit-and-run semi truck while walking in a construction zone along southbound I-29 in Kansas City. Both drivers involved in the fatal crash on I-695 that killed six construction workers are facing charges, including multiple counts of manslaughter, reckless driving, and other charges. Melachi Brown has been arrested and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center, while Lisa Lea is facing an additional charge of driving while impaired and is currently being searched for.
