Former US Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who defended the Capitol during the January 6 insurrection and testified before the House select committee, has announced his candidacy for Congress in Maryland's 3rd Congressional District. Dunn, who recently stepped down from the police force after 15 years, is motivated by the events of January 6 and the potential reelection of Donald Trump. He joins a competitive field of Democrats vying for the seat vacated by Rep. John Sarbanes. Dunn has been recognized for his bravery with the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Citizens Medal.
