Two Colorado high school seniors, Gavin Hamann and Jaxson Remmick, have made history by becoming the first players to earn Division I college scholarships to play cornhole at Winthrop University in South Carolina. The pair, who are considered five-star recruits in the game, are two-time American Cornhole League High School National Champions and will have about half of their tuition covered by the scholarships. Winthrop University aims to develop its cornhole program into a powerhouse and hopes to pave the way for college cornhole as a recognized sport.

Over 260 high school seniors from Alabama have been named as National Merit Semifinalists, out of more than 16,000 students nationwide. These students achieved the top scores in the state on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) taken during their junior year. Semifinalists have the opportunity to compete for over 7,100 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million. The selection process includes submitting a detailed application, writing an essay, obtaining a recommendation, and earning a qualifying score on the SAT or ACT. Approximately 95% of Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists, with the results announced in February.

Dennis Barnes, a 16-year-old high school senior from New Orleans, has broken records by receiving over $9 million in college scholarships. Barnes was accepted into 170 colleges and universities for the upcoming fall semester, with a cumulative GPA of 4.98. He is even beating out a Guinness Book of World Records holder from his native state of Louisiana, who was awarded $8.7 million in 2019. Barnes will announce his school choice on May 2, with his high school graduation set for May 24.

Dennis Barnes, a 16-year-old high school senior from New Orleans, has broken the record for most college scholarships received by a college-bound high school senior in U.S. history, receiving more than $9 million in scholarships in acceptances from more than 170 colleges and universities. Barnes, who has a 4.98 cumulative GPA, applied to more than 200 schools across the U.S. and hopes to net more than $10 million in scholarships by the end of the week. He plans to study computer science in college and then go to law school.
