Alejandro Marroquin, a 17-year-old from Hyattsville, was surprised by the University of Maryland marching band and mascot at his home, congratulating him on his admission to the university. His parents had been in on the secret, and the school wanted the big reveal to be public, with a marching band and a videographer to record the scene. Alejandro, who had been praying for an acceptance letter from the University of Maryland, was thrilled to be admitted and could study film and play drums there.

Patrick Wojahn, the former mayor of College Park, Maryland, has been sentenced to 30 years in jail after pleading guilty to 60 counts of distribution of child pornography, 40 counts of possession of child pornography, and 40 counts of possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute.
