Coley McCraney sentenced to life without parole for 1999 Alabama teen murders.
Coley McCraney, an Alabama man, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 1999 murders of two high school seniors. McCraney was convicted of four counts of capital murder, including vehicle and rape, and capital murder of two or more persons. The murders of Tracie Hawlett and J.B. Beasley haunted the Wiregrass region for decades until a DNA match was found through a family DNA website in a genealogy search. McCraney, who had lived a crime-free life for 20 years following the murders, was arrested in 2019. The jury spared him the death penalty, with 10 jurors voting for life without parole and two for the death penalty.
