"Malware Alert: Encrypted PDFs Pose New Threat"
Russian-backed hackers are using malware disguised as a PDF encryption tool called Coldriver to steal information. The attackers send encrypted PDFs and then a malware-loaded "encryption tool" once the victims respond. The malware, called Spica, steals cookies from various web browsers to obtain information. Google has added all domains, websites, and files involved in the attacks to its Safe Browsing service and has notified targeted users. To protect yourself, avoid downloading bootleg software, clicking on suspicious links or files, regularly update your device's software, and have good antivirus software. If you've been hacked, change your passwords, enable two-factor authentication, monitor your accounts and transactions, use identity theft protection, contact your bank and credit card companies, and alert your contacts.
