Dutch Parliament Sworn In After Far-Right Victory, Climate Change Plans in Doubt
A new lower house of the Dutch parliament has been sworn in, following the victory of Geert Wilders' far-right Party for Freedom in the general election two weeks ago. Talks to form a new ruling coalition are still in the early stages, with a "scout" engaging in discussions with party leaders. Wilders' party won 37 seats in the 150-seat parliament, but potential coalition partners are hesitant due to policy pledges they consider unconstitutional. The new parliament consists of 15 different parties, including 67 lawmakers with no prior legislative experience.
