A judge has ruled that the names of co-signers of George Santos' $500,000 bond must be made public. Santos, a former Republican congressional candidate, was arrested in January on charges of wire fraud and making false statements to a financial institution. The judge rejected Santos' argument that the co-signers' identities should remain confidential due to safety concerns.
Rep. George Santos' lawyer has requested the judge overseeing the case to keep the identities of the co-signers who put up the New York Republican's $500,000 bond sealed, arguing that they would be "likely to suffer great distress, may lose their jobs, and God forbid, may suffer physical injury" if their names were released. Santos was indicted last month on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making materially false statements to the House of Representatives. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bond.
