Gatwick Airport secures approval for £2.2bn second runway
UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander approved a £2.2bn plan for a second runway at Gatwick Airport to increase capacity and boost the economy, despite opposition from environmental groups concerned about climate impact and local noise and traffic issues.
