"FDA Discovers Chromium in Lead-Tainted Applesauce Pouches"

The FDA has found that WanaBana cinnamon applesauce pouches, which were recalled due to lead contamination, also contain the heavy metal chromium, potentially the carcinogenic chromium-6. The levels of chromium found are over five times the EPA's limit for drinking water. While the health effects of chromium-6 in food are not well-known, symptoms of exposure can include abdominal pain, nausea, and organ dysfunction. The FDA is unable to determine the exact form of chromium present but advises parents of affected children to consult healthcare providers. No comment has been received from WanaBana, the manufacturer of the applesauce.
