Trailblazing L.A. politician Gloria Molina dies at 74 after cancer battle.

Gloria Molina, the first Chicana elected to the state Assembly, the Los Angeles City Council, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, died at the age of 74 after battling cancer for three years. Molina was a pioneering political leader who represented the people of Los Angeles and was noted as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. She was a proud Chicana and a product of the Pico Rivera community on Los Angeles County’s Eastside. Molina is survived by her daughter, husband, grandson, and siblings. A celebration of life is scheduled for June 3.

Gloria Molina, a trailblazing politician and activist who was the first Chicana elected to the California Legislature, L.A. City Council, and the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, has died at the age of 74 after battling terminal cancer for three years. Molina was known for championing women and Latinos and breaking barriers throughout her career. City leaders, including Mayor Karen Bass, praised her impact on Los Angeles and the country. Molina's family said they are proud she will be remembered as a "Chicana activist." A public celebration of life will be forthcoming.
