SpaceX's cellular Starlink system, which uses orbiting satellites to beam internet data to phones on the ground, has been successful in tests with unmodified Samsung, Apple, and Google devices, including indoors and under tree cover. The technology has transmitted messages through WhatsApp and is expected to launch for T-Mobile customers later this year, with plans to support voice calls and data next year. Pending FCC approval, SpaceX aims to launch over 800 Direct-to-Cell satellites in the coming months.
