Elderly Climber Rescued During Record-Breaking Attempt in Nepal

Spanish climber Carlos Soria, 84, attempting to become the oldest person to summit all the world's highest peaks, was rescued from Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal after being injured. Soria had scaled 12 of the 14 highest mountains in the world above 8,000 meters. He was flown from the mountain by a rescue helicopter and brought to a hospital in Kathmandu for treatment.

84-year-old Spanish climber injured in quest to scale world's highest peaks

Spanish mountaineer Carlos Soria sustained a leg injury above Camp 3 on Dhaulagiri when a Sherpa fell and crashed into his shin. Rescuers, including Polish climbers Bartek Ziemski and Oswald Pereira, are helping him down from 7,700m, but it will be a tricky descent. Soria was attempting Dhaulagiri for the 14th time and had reached Camp 3 with his team before setting off for the summit. This is the first time he has needed rescue.
