Two individuals, identified as Suad Al Yasiri and Willie Davis, drowned in Lake MacBride in Iowa after their canoe tipped over. Despite immediate response from emergency services, the victims were found under 23 feet of water and were not wearing life jackets. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident.
A family canoeing on the Nemadji River in eastern Minnesota discovered human remains near the Soo Line ATV trail and Highway 23. The Carlton County Sheriff's Office responded to the 911 call and is currently investigating the incident. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will identify the deceased.
The body of a 20-year-old man who went missing after a canoe capsized in Pequot Pond, Westfield, has been found by professional bass fisherman Mario Santaniello using sonar. The man's body was found in a section of Pequot Pond approximately 50 years from where the canoe capsized. The two other men were able to swim to shore, but the East Longmeadow man did not resurface and was reported missing. The death investigation is ongoing.
One person died after being swept into a fast current while canoeing on the Colorado River in Eagle County, Colorado. The victim was found unresponsive in the river and attempts to resuscitate them were unsuccessful. All three people were wearing personal flotation devices.
