As of January 1, 2024, Nevada has implemented 80 new laws, including the doubling of legal marijuana possession to 2.5 ounces and allowing recreational retailers to sell medical cannabis without a separate license. The state has also introduced measures to improve healthcare coverage, such as mandatory insurance coverage for breast cancer tests and extended Medicaid postpartum care to a full year. Solitary confinement in prisons is now limited to a last resort with a maximum of 15 days. Additionally, Nevada has legalized "human composting," becoming the seventh state to allow the organic disposal of human remains into soil.

"Nevada Ushers in 2023 with Over 80 New Laws Including Medicaid Expansion and Cannabis Limit Increase"

Starting January 1, 2024, over 80 new laws will come into effect in Nevada, including increased legal limits for cannabis possession, the introduction of voting rights for inmates, stricter penalties for selling tobacco to minors, and regulations for food delivery robots. Senate Bill 277 allows up to two and a half ounces of cannabis and a quarter-ounce of concentrate, with reduced fees for cannabis establishment licenses and opportunities for certain felons to work in the industry. Assembly Bill 286 mandates that inmates be allowed to vote by mail and establishes safe voting processes in jails. Assembly Bill 53 increases fines for retailers selling tobacco to under-21s, with fines up to $10,000 for repeated violations. Senate Bill 422 sets requirements for food delivery robots, including weight, speed limits, and insurance coverage.
