Conservative legal mind and former White House counsel C. Boyden Gray dies at 80.
C. Boyden Gray, a former Democrat who became a prominent conservative lawyer, died at the age of 80. He served as White House counsel under George H.W. Bush and was involved in policy, diplomacy, judicial appointments, and fundraising for every Republican president since Ronald Reagan. Gray was a key figure in the conservative legal establishment and facilitated the appointments of Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and David H. Souter. He also did legal work for Donald J. Trump after the 2020 election and donated $3 million to fund an institute at the conservative law school of George Mason University in Virginia.
