Dozens of Migrants Discovered in Basement of Queens Furniture Store

Dozens of migrants from West Africa were discovered living in the basement of a Queens furniture store during a city building inspection, prompting city officials to relocate them to a migrant shelter in the Bronx. The shop owner, Ebou Sarr, admitted to housing the migrants out of compassion, but neighbors complained about noise, e-bikes, and an enclosure built in the backyard. Mayor Eric Adams and Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer addressed the issue, emphasizing the city's housing crisis and the need to build more to prevent such desperate situations. The store received vacate orders and violations, and the neighbors expressed relief that the illegal housing had been addressed.
