Buchtel claims first OHSAA boys basketball state title in thrilling win.
The Buchtel boys basketball team won their first Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championship, defeating Lutheran West 51-49 in a thrilling Division II final. Senior Marcel Boyce Jr. made two free throws with 14.5 seconds remaining to secure the victory. Buchtel is the first Akron Public Schools team to win a boys basketball state championship since Central-Hower in 1986. Boyce finished with 18 points and six rebounds, leading Buchtel in scoring in six of the seven tournament games.
