Cosmetic surgeons are warning against the trend of buccal fat removal, a surgical procedure that removes fat from the cheeks to create a chiselled look. The procedure, which has surged in popularity due to social media influencers and celebrities, can cause permanent damage to nerves and glands under the skin, leading to paralysis and severe swelling. Experts warn that patients may end up looking older before their time as the lack of tissue in the face causes skin to droop and wrinkle. The British Association For Plastic, Reconstructive And Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) is urging caution and highlighting the significant risks of the social media craze.
