Kim Ng Departs Marlins: The Reason Behind Her Exit and Future Prospects
Kim Ng has declined the mutual option on the last year of her contract as general manager of the Miami Marlins after owner Bruce Sherman expressed his desire to hire a president of baseball operations over her. Ng, who became the first female general manager in the four major North American professional sports leagues, made the decision after discussing it with trusted colleagues and realizing that she and Sherman were not completely aligned on the future of the baseball operations department. Despite the Marlins' recent success and her role as a role model for young women and Asian Americans, Ng felt it was best to step away. She leaves the Marlins after their most successful season in 20 years.
