BioWare faces layoffs as Star Wars: The Old Republic transitions to new developers
BioWare has confirmed that development of the long-running MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be transferred to Broadsword, an external studio, resulting in layoffs for some staff members. Broadsword, founded by former developers from Mythic Entertainment, will be responsible for ongoing development of the game, including new story content and improvements. The Old Republic initially combined MMO mechanics with BioWare's singleplayer storytelling, but later shifted its focus primarily to the latter, allowing for solo play with some combat grind.
