The rollout of Thread 1.4, which allows border routers from different manufacturers to join existing Thread networks, is delayed until at least 2026, causing fragmentation in smart home device connectivity. Apple is set to implement Thread 1.4 with tvOS 26 this fall, but other major players like Google, Amazon, and Samsung are still on Thread 1.3, with support expected next year.
